This is a fully remote employment opportunity. Preference for candidates to be located in Western Chicago Suburbs or Nashville TN.
This position works to advance the ministry of Awana by collaborating with leaders and employees across all levels of the organization to deliver forward-thinking talent management and organizational development strategies.
This HR role will support Awana’s talent development activities and programs by shepherding a positive and professional employee experience from start to finish and by being a resource to leadership in talent and team development. This hands-on role will need to be able to flex between strategic and tactical work depending on priorities and needs as well as apply leadership and coaching skills to build and develop talent.

  • Works collaboratively to curate a professional positive and inclusive onboarding experience that engages new hires and acclimates them to our culture’s core values resources and processes.
  • Owns and trains staff on employee development and engagement tools (e.g. 15Five Syntrio/LMS Mineral Gallup). Utilizes reporting features and helps leaders and staff to maximize system capabilities.
  • In collaboration with Leadership develops and implement frameworks tools and other resources to enhance the employee experience at Awana.
  • Works to support unity and team building across the organization through dialogue and engagement.
  • Works in collaboration with the leadership team to plan team-building activities outings and engagement opportunities.
  • Manages and facilitates employee recognition programs.
  • Assists with stewarding assigned budgets e.g. Training & Education Service Awards and Employee Events.
  • Facilitates and performs recruiting of top talent through various resources and shepherds positive applicant experiences and impressions of our ministry. Represent Awana at Job Fairs as needed.
  • In collaboration with HR and other internal teams leads and facilitates offboarding processes.
  • Cross-trains and may serve as back-up to HR team functions such as compensation benefits payroll HRIS.
  • Stays current on the federal state and local employment laws and regulations as well as best practices related to responsibilities.
  • Supports upholds and demonstrates the Awana cultural values in internal and external communications and relationships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) desired with a concentration in HR Organizational Development business or similar from an accredited college or university.
  • PHR SHRM-CP and/or other professional HR certifications are a plus.
  • 1-3 years of HR experience preferred; HR experience in a ministry environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with team and employee engagement concepts is highly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of federal state and local laws regulations and court decisions applicable to Human Resources is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to utilize technology to streamline work are highly preferred.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills including strong Word and Excel skills; experience with HRIS system(s) ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.
  • A general understanding of the Bible and the Christian church in its various expressions is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of children and youth inspirational or ministry space including Awana program/product familiarity a plus.
