Summary

The Area Manager is responsible for the operations within their own local PDC facility, as well as other PDC locations assigned to them. Responsibilities include managing the overall facilities operations as well as all personnel within their sites. A key responsibility of the Area Manager is to develop the right culture across the PDCs under their direction, and align with the Sleep Outfitter’s Culture, Mission, Vision, and Values. The Area Manager leads their local team of employees, as well as 3-5 PDC managers and staff in their region, motivating them to meet company goals while also upholding standards for safety, quality, and productivity. The Area Manager ensures that the receipt, inspection, and re-sale of product meets all State and Federal Laws in the bedding industry for the PDCs within their region. The Area Manager also oversees all home delivery operations for their respective PDC as well as PDCs within their region including Guest interactions, route planning, and drive team management. ESG initiatives are also overseen by the Regional Manager for the PDCs within their region.

Essential Responsibilities for PDCs within region:

  • Builds and promotes a culture and environment that is safe, open, and engaging to all Outfitters
  • Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and managing execution of program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local laws pertaining to warehouse, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; maintaining adherence to the requirements; advising management on needed actions; including DOT and FMSCA.
  • Ensures a safe work environment for all Outfitters with robust Safety Program to create accident-free work areas.
  • Oversees Home Delivery operations including scheduling Guests, picking, put away, and staging of products for delivery, and other Home Delivery functions.
  • Achieves financial objectives by meeting KPI and metric benchmarks (both internal and 3rd party); scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Maintains a productive operation via communications and scheduling with freight providers, 3rd party vendors, Guests, wholesalers, parent plants, and other inline PDC locations.
  • Travel to PDCs within their regional footprint to perform site visits, audits, and to assist as needed. The Area Manager is expected to travel at least 50% of the time.
  • The Area Manager will also assist with other duties and tasks as assigned.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of inventory control processes.
  • Formal DOT and FMCSA training preferred
  • Management reporting (financial, production, safety, performance) and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a warehouse environment utilizing technology
  • Experience with Guest-facing operations and interactions
  • Routing software experience for planning, scheduling, and route optimization for Home Delivery
  • Knowledge of project management and continuous improvement principles.
  • OpEx trained or certification in Lean Methodologies and Six Sigma experience desired
  • Leadership – ability to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions.
  • Management Skills – Ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively supervise others.
  • Accountability – Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions
  • Time Management – Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines
  • Coaching and Development – Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas.

Education and Experience:

  • 4-year degree preferred
  • 3+ years of warehouse/distribution, logistics, and delivery experience required
  • 3+ years of management experience with direct report responsibilities
  • 3+ years of Fleet Management experience with Box Trucks or Tractors

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver’s license within state of operation
  • Forklift certification or experience

Other Requirements:

  • West Candidates must live within 60 miles of one of the western PDC locations of Kansas City, MO; Dallas, TX; Phoenix, AZ; or Dupount, WA
